Blue...

We all know by now my silly attachment to inanimate objects. Well I have another story for you and it involves the Mr.'s Ford Explorer, Blue. Blue came into our lives some time ago and has traveled many miles with the Mr. when he was assigned out of state work. My "thing" for objects such as cars has kind of crossed over to the Mr. now, as evidenced by the fact that on long road trips he will speak to Blue while driving. Sometimes when speaking of another vehicle we make apologies to Blue just in case he/she hears of talking about that nice looking truck or that newer Explorer that we would love to have.

On a recent assignment in Baltimore, Blue began to have some health issues. It appeared they may be serious but after several opinions it was determinded that Blue could be fixed up for a nominal fee and be good to go. It was such a relief to hear and before long Blue was able to get the Mr. home safe and sound. You see the Mr. was now taking another position and would be staying in the area now instead of traveling all over. Blue and the Mr. home, what more could a girl ask for? Things were going along pretty good until one day Blue didn't seem quite right. The Mr. felt it might be the same problem coming back that presented itself in Baltimore. It could be a serious issue so we took no chances and rushed Blue in for diagnostic testing. The results were not good...Blue would need a new transmission. An expensive fix at best.

Before we made the decision on what to do, we explored our options and explored the used car lots both online and physically. All the time apologizing to Blue that we might not be able to keep him/her in the end. When it was almost decided that Blue would be traded in for another newer model, Consumer Reports came to Blue's rescue! You see they did not give our replacement vehicle a very good write up so the offer to trade was rescinded and we were left once again to ponder the fate of old Blue.

After careful thought and consideration it was determined that we would give Blue his/her second chance at life and took it in for the three or four day procedure. We are both kind of relieved that we were able to keep Blue and hope that he or she appreciates all the time and effort that went into the decision making process. After it was all said and done, I turned to the Mr. and said "it's a good thing we are keeping Blue, I do want want to give up rights to its license plate". For those who might be asking, what? She is attached to license plates too! Blue's plate begins with DLK, which means the Mr. ( aka Don) loves the Mrs. (aka Kathy). But that my friends is a whole other story for another day!
