My son...the track coach
My son has been a runner since his early years. This love for running blossomed into a long, and successful career as both a high school and college athlete. Had it not been for a torn ACL during his senior year of high school and several subsequent surgeries following, I think he may have enjoyed some other successes and might still enjoy some type of pleasure running, but not the sprint events he was so noted for.
So what does one do when they still love the sport of track but can no longer participate? What does one do when they love the thrill of guiding young men into becoming track stars? They take up the "sport" of coaching! Which is exactly what my son has done for the past 8 or 9 years. As the head sprint coach at our local high school, he has managed to prepare a squad of sprinters for appearances in the State track meet held at The Jesse Owens Stadium, Columbus, OH. This year is no different as several of the sprinters will represent their high school at the upcoming state meet. Yes, they are a talented group of young men but they also have been graced with an exceptional coach who has guided them through technique drills, speed drills, hand-off techniques and strength and conditioning routines. As District and Regional Champions, the sprint squad is getting a lot of press and as always the head coach gets the nod. I just wanted my readers to know that I am very proud of my son and what he has done and the success he is experiencing as a track coach. Maybe someday he will be publicly recognized for his efforts, but for now he is quite content to bask in the simple glory of making the same dreams he had as a prep track athlete come true for the group he now coaches.
