Nod to Pop Pop...
# 89 of 365.
I went grocery shopping last night with my daughter and while shopping we talked about the upcoming two year anniversary date of the passing of my father-in-law and her Pop Pop. In her effort to remember him in an ever so slight way, we set out to find his favorite cookies to purchase, iced animal crackers to be exact. While not the easiest cookies to find, she did come across the bag and into the cart it went.
Our memories of him are fond and plentiful. The cookie story was and always has been one of our favorites. I will try and tell in a shortened version.
When Pop Pop came to visit from California, we always stocked up on his favorite items which included real butter, iced animal crackers, candy (also known as medicine), Entenmann's coffee cakes and the likes. One year when Carrie and Dominick were very young, they decided to hide the bag of cookies so that they would not have to share. Pop Pop searched high and low for those cookies and the entire time he was here for his visit they never surfaced. Fast forward several weeks when one day I was doing some real house cleaning and low and behold found the bag of cookies stashed behind the living room couch! We laughed and laughed about that for years to come.
