Creepy Crawlers...

The Mr. and I work endless hours in our yard to keep it looking nice. It has become somewhat of a hobby but an obsession as well. This time of year does not offer us the payback we would expect after spending so much time tending to the grass and gardens.
Of course Mother Nature did not do us any favors this year by supplying us with way too many +90 degree days and no rain to speak of this summer. This alone causes the grass to take on a hue that does not resemble green. The dry weather also causes our sycamore tree to prematurely drop its leaves, therefore, causing a messy front yard.
But the worst things this year to grace our yard are the box elder beetles, the grubs and the nighttime visits from our resident neighborhood raccoon searching for said grubs. He has managed once again to tear up large portions of our once pretty back yard. Needless to say, it is quite discouraging to look out on the yard that was once so pretty only to see ugly.
The battle of the beetles has been interesting to say the least. They have graced our yard in years past, but this year decided to take up residence in the area surrounding our entrance. While they are harmless, there is nothing more fun than swatting bugs out of the way just to get inside! I have done some research on these pesky visitors and hope to have them under better control next year! As for the grubs, they got a dose of chemicals this past weekend and hopefully that will force the raccoon to migrate to someone elses yard for his snacks. Time will tell!
