Shooting for the moon...

# 67 of 365.

Moonflower that is! My moonflower plant started with seeds from a dear old neighbor, Betty. I shared my seeds with a co-worker Annette and she had great success in growing her moonflower. Over the years mine did not come back so Annette returned the favor by giving me plant starts last year. I harvested the seed pods for the garden this year and hoped they would take. Early this spring I noticed what I thought was the early beginnings of a new moonflower and protected it from possible weed pickers (aka, the Mr.). It grew and grew and before I knew it became very large. So large in fact, that I had to prop it up with a flower ring to support it's own weight. Each evening it provides us with the most beautiful scent and sight as the large white blossoms begin to open. Last night as I shot some photos I noticed that each blossom was visited by bees, busy at work. I had to keep my distance with the camera, but wanted to share their enormous size and beauty with you today.
