Lemon in my Water?

I'm not exactly sure when this method of serving water began or why, but am I the only one who prefers no lemon in my glass of water? I know that restaurants probably don't wash their lemons and knives used to cut may not be the cleanest, not to mention the hands doing the cutting. So why would I want those germs floating in my glass of water? I think restaurants should only put a lemon in the glass upon request.
