The Chickadee

# 22 of 365.

My bird feeder sits right near our screened porch so that we can enjoy the company of the many birds that frequent it. It's fun to notice how the different breeds utilize the feeder. One of my favorites is the chickadee who seems to land on the perch just long enough to nab one seed (usually a sunflower seed), fly to the tree nearby and proceed to crack it open on the branch. It will do this repeated times.

The beautiful cardinal doesn't seem to love the feeder and would rather eat from the bowl on the ground or the seeds sprinkled about. But he will sit on the perch, albeit he seems too large and it is difficult for him to bend down to reach the opening of the feeder.

No one sticks around long when the mighty and not so friendly blue jay shows up. He, like the cardinal has a difficult time getting to the seed because of his size but he does so with no competition and no company. I wonder how he feels inside knowing that he is so intimidating?
